global education student assessment tools
In an assessment driven, standards based world, it is difficult to directly assess for global competence. While I don't operate within a system that is so assessment driven, I realize its importance in many ways. Recently, many assessment tools have been developed to help examine the value of global competence and provide a systematic way to assess some of these learnings. The names below link to some of the more user friendly or accessible assessment tools.
Asia Society Global Competence page contains clickable rubrics for almost every subject discipline to assess the four components of global competence: investigating the world, recognizing perspective, communicating ideas, and taking action.
The Global Education Checklist is a very comprehensive for individual teachers, schools, districts and more to get a better idea of their participation in a global educational system and preparation to such ends.
Oxfam's Global Citizenship Guides provide practical ideas to implement global education and matrices that could be used as assessment rubrics.
Caryn McTighe Musil's Assessing Global Learning contains questionnaires, matrices, and rubrics to help teachers prepare for and assess global learning.
I really appreciate the Asia Society's four elements of global education as seen in the graphic . Therefore, I recommend the Asia Society Global Competence. It's not as easy to use as a checklist, but I think the rubrics are great for assessing global competence within subject areas.
